We laughed a lot last week as we added a PERi-PERi twist to the Leicester Comedy Festival. For one night only, Nando’s Highcross was turned into our very own comedy gig, “The Other Side”.
Taking charge of the evening, compare Tom Davis got the crowd going with some red-hot humour, including a rather amusing insight into living with his parents at 33. Next up were Paul McCaffrey and Carl Hutchinson, who treated the crowd to their unique views on everything from Leicester to One Direction and swearing. An interactive performance from Chris Ramsey closed the night with his quick one-liners, sending the crowd off laughing and happily filled with plenty of PERi-PERi chicken.
The Leicester Tigers also dropped in to see what all the fuss was about and not only tucked into lots of PERi-PERi but were quite literally in tears of laughter along with the rest of us.
So, apart from a little jaw ache, we’re already testing out our best jokes for next year and can’t wait to keep on bring you more portions of laughter along with your chicken. A massive shout out to those who came along, we hope you had as much of a good time as we did.
P.S. Were you there on the night? See if you can spot yourself in one of our Facebook pics (and remember to tag yourself) here.
Here at Nando’s we’re always game for a laugh and to prove it, we’re giving you the chance to get your hands on the hottest tickets at the Leicester Comedy Festival.
On Tuesday 7th February, we’re putting on a Nando’s comedy gig, ‘The Other Side’ and we’ve got ten pairs of tickets (and of course loads of PERi-PERi) up for grabs for those up for a laugh.
Back for its second year, we’ve got four hilarious comedians lined up to storm the stage at the Nando’s Highcross restaurant. Chris Ramsey an Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee who you might’ve spotted on Celebrity Juice or 8 Out of 10 Cats, Jarred Christmas the Kiwi from 2011’s Celebrity Mastermind, Tom Davis whose characters have probably already made you laugh on Channel 4’s Morgana Show, and Paul McCaffrey who debuted his solo standup, ‘Saying Something Stupid’ at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
To get your hands on a pair of tickets, just make us laugh by adding the punch line to the following joke …we’ll pick the ten that have us creasing up to come along.
If you’re on Twitter, tweet your punch line to the following joke using the hashtag #NandosHaHa to see if you’ve got what it takes to make us laugh. Alternatively, head on over here to our competition entry page and make us do a little giggle with your punchline.
Barci walks into a bar . . .
Good luck!

Players from Bath Rugby club had a good ‘try’ at serving some ‘scrum- my’ food at Nando’s on Saturday (27th March) to raise money for the Forever Friends Space to Grow Campaign. The campaign is aiming to raise six million pounds for a brand new state of the art Neo-natal intensive care ward at the Bath’s Royal United Hospital.
The players – Shontayne Hape, Jonny Fa’amatuainu, Matt Carraro, Julian Salvi and Matt Banahan – were fantastic sports and really ‘tackled the challenge’ head on! Our Manager Patrick Heng spent time with them beforehand so they knew what they were doing.
They worked a shift and spent time taking orders at the till and also taking food to customers. The customers all seemed delighted to have some local celebs bringing their food to them and were very generous in donating to the collection buckets.
Patrick mentioned that the boys did really well. At least they know if the bottom falls out of the rugby game they can always make the ‘conversion’ to griller!!
So – how often do you look at our menu? Yes, we know who you are our beloved loyal fans who come in each week – Mr “1/4 Chicken Hot, Chips and Coleslaw” or Mrs “Chicken Pitta Lemon and Herb, Spicy Rice and Corn”. We know who you are and we know that you haven’t even taken a sneaky look at our menu for ages cos you know what you like and you like what you know.
However, we also know that lots of you also like to have a little browse and are often tempted by our new offerings (Sweet Potato Mash, Ratatouille, Macho Peas etc). So – keep your eyes pealed cos we’ve just had some new menus designed and we’re pretty proud of the results! Rob our Brand Experience Manager and Tate our Marketing Assistant have been working into the wee small hours to produce some real beauties!! There are three main menu designs and a dessert menu. The designs use the style of three great artists – Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro and Roy Liechtenstein and the dessert menu is based on Andy Warhol. If they’d done menu’s we reckon ours would look like this!
Our ‘impression’ is just a bit of fun, but at Nando’s real art is taken very seriously. We commission original works (check them out on the walls of our restaurants) from South African artists. With amazing work by everyone from bushmen on community farms to renowned Johannesburg painters, our collection of more than 3,000 works is distinctly diverse. We also helped an independent studio set up a subsidised diploma course for aspiring artists. Successful students’work is considered for the Nando’s collection. The artists achieve recognition and you have something great to look at while you’re eating – everyone’s a winner!
We hope you like the menus, they’ll be in the restaurants from next week – we’d love to hear any thoughts you have – please share with us …
Hello! Welcome to the Nando’s Blog! We thought it might be fun to give you a little window into our world, share our outlook on life and also some of our celeb fans, we hope it brings you a smile! This week is our first update and we hope you’ll join in by adding your comments. We’re learning and growing as we’re writing this, so would love to hear your feedback.
So, it’s National Chilli Week! A fantastic opportunity for us to tell you about the wonderful benefits of the mighty chilli. We’ve just done a bit of clever maths stuff and have found out that people are eating hotter food more often ! Hurrah you all cry! (and so do we!)
Whether you choose Lemon and Herb or Extra Hot, you’re still getting a heat hit from our small but powerful friend! We’ve worked out that 1/3 of people are eating spicy food at least once a week. We’ve always reckoned that people who indulge in the joy of Nando’s also indulge in the joy of other areas of life! Chilli is a known aphrodisiac and we’ve also found out that half of the people asked would use chilli to kick start their love life.
Did you know that there’s a man at Nando’s who is responsible for buying our chilli’s? (it’s a very important job you know) – Michael Plumber knows everything there is to know about the Hot Stuff …
• Nando’s customers are getting hotter (that’s not a personal opinion!)
• In the past year orders for Extra Hot chicken has gone up by over a third while our milder Lemon & Herb baste has reduced – you crazy dare devils!
So, we thought we’d get into the spirit and challenge our marketing team to see how hot they could go! This extremely scientific experiment involved our Hot Wings and our Extra Hot sauce. This seemed to be really successful in terms of encouraging our fellow colleagues to test their endurance levels and of course prove their general manliness (OK, not so much the girls!). Excuse the manners, they don’t hold back! Take a look at our video – not for the faint hearted!
Some of our celebrity fans share our love of the chilli:
Denise Van Outen
‘I am a chilli chick and a big fan of PERi-PERi spice. I would encourage everyone to really spice up their food this chilli week. Give it a try – not only does it taste great but the cheeky little chilli is packed full of vitamins and is known to give you an extra kick in more ways than one!’
Ricky Whittle
‘I always try and eat some PERi-PERi spice the night before the show, it gives me extra heat and passion on the dance floor!’
Pixie Lott
‘I usually have mine lemon and herb in a chicken breast fillet wrap so that I can taste the sauces.. it is the best meal ever! If I’m feeling feisty I take the spice up a notch to medium, also the new desserts are to die for!’
Goldie
“Now it’s getting chilli, I like my Nando’s to be on fire! Although it’s good to have some Dutch or Thai on the side, you can’t beat a blazing Scotch Bonnet!”
Darren Jeffries & Matt Littler
Darren Jeffries‘Chilli could quite possibly be the best ingredient ever. My Mums chilli con carne set me on the right path and now I try and add chilli to everything. And I do mean everything! It’s not chilli either until it makes your ears sweat!’
Matt Littler ‘I was never a fan of the hot stuff, until I got onto the heat induced high of Nando’s now I can’t stop myself! I’ve tried it with allsorts, steak, salad and even mash potato! I’m mad me! And like Darren said it’s not hot until you get the lip and eyelid sweats!’
