Our beautiful new menu covers

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

Have you ever wondered where Nando’s gets all the amazing pieces of art you find on our restaurant walls? Well, it actually all comes from South Africa (the home of Nando’s) and makes up the largest collection of African art outside the country, with over 4,000 pieces in total from over 260 talented artists.

You may remember us telling you about the start of our Art Menu Project last year where some of our favourite South African artists from the Nando’s collection were invited over to see some London sights and sounds and enjoy some PERi-PERi chicken, on us. Well, they’ve been hard at work for the last six months and as a result have created some beautiful pieces that we’re incredibly proud to have used for some amazing new menu covers.

The new menu designs launch in all restaurants nationwide this week, so check them out next time you visit and in the meantime you can find out more about our collection and about the artists themselves here or over at the new African art section of the Nando’s website.

Huge thanks goes out to the artists responsible for the new menu cover designs (and all the other amazing artists that feature in the Nando’s collection).

Emma Waymando Wayman Welcomes us to Wokingham

Thursday, February 23rd, 2012

Nando’s landed in Wokingham this week, offering up all the spicy chicken a town could ever need and more, but of course we couldn’t celebrate alone – we were lucky enough to have Wokingham’s number one Nando’s super-fan, Emma ‘Waymando’ Wayman join us.

Emma dropped us a line in the run up to the opening after hearing about a new Nando’s hatching in Wokingham. As a local super-fan she told us how she’d always wanted to open a restaurant and even showed us her PERi-PERi poem. It goes without saying that we love our fans so we couldn’t wait to invite Emma to be our official Wokingham ribbon cutter and treat her to the town’s very first Nando’s meal.

We’ll hand over to Emma to tell us about her day . . .

“From the moment I first tasted the Nando’s PERi-PERi goodness I wanted for nothing more. So, when I heard a restaurant was coming to my home town I joked to my friends that I had written my very own Nando’s poem and been invited to cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony on my Facebook. But I knew I had to figure out a way to make it a reality…

So I got in touch with Nando’s and told them about my poem. To my surprise they responded with the news I could only have dreamt to receive! I was asked to come along to the grand opening – all my dreams had come true.

Finally the big day came, I cut through the ribbon officially opening the restaurant and words cannot describe my excitement to tuck in to a PERi-licious lunch. The staff, food and restaurant are all amazing. I am certain I will be there at least twice a week.

Wokingham Opening
Rounding up the day I posed with restaurant Nandocas and Mayor of Wokingham Peter Lucey – I truly feel like Nando’s number one fan!”

Big thank you to Emma and everyone that came to celebrate, if you missed it come and check us out in Wokingham.

A Funny Feast in Leicester

Friday, February 17th, 2012

We laughed a lot last week as we added a PERi-PERi twist to the Leicester Comedy Festival. For one night only, Nando’s Highcross was turned into our very own comedy gig, “The Other Side”.

The Other Side

Taking charge of the evening, compare Tom Davis got the crowd going with some red-hot humour, including a rather amusing insight into living with his parents at 33. Next up were Paul McCaffrey and Carl Hutchinson, who treated the crowd to their unique views on everything from Leicester to One Direction and swearing. An interactive performance from Chris Ramsey closed the night with his quick one-liners, sending the crowd off laughing and happily filled with plenty of PERi-PERi chicken.

The Leicester Tigers also dropped in to see what all the fuss was about and not only tucked into lots of PERi-PERi but were quite literally in tears of laughter along with the rest of us.

The Other Side

So, apart from a little jaw ache, we’re already testing out our best jokes for next year and can’t wait to keep on bring you more portions of laughter along with your chicken. A massive shout out to those who came along, we hope you had as much of a good time as we did.

P.S. Were you there on the night? See if you can spot yourself in one of our Facebook pics (and remember to tag yourself) here.

Bottle up your feelings this Valentine’s

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

With Nando’s lovers Marvin and Rochelle announcing their engagement, we wanted to congratulate them in a way that only Nando’s can – by getting saucy. So to show the hot couple some Nando’s love, we sent them a set of their very own sauces…and this got us thinking.

Marvin and Rochelle

Great Chicken March: tomorrow!

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

We can’t quite believe it’s here already, but tomorrow (Saturday 4th February) we’re hitting the streets of London for a 15 mile walk to raise money for Help A London Child – starting at both Nando’s Woolwich at 9am and Nando’s Beckenham at 9:30am and then finishing at Nando’s Clink Street.

We’ll be doing live updates throughout the day, so you’ll be able to see where we are and what we’re up to as we make our way across London. And most importantly, we’d love you to support us – either by joining us on the day (see the map below for the route we’re taking) or simply by making a donation two ways:

1. Head on over to our JustGiving page right now and make a donation

2. Text your donation to 70070 using code QBMA60 to plus the amount you want to donate (For example, to donate £1 text QBMA60 £1 to 70070)

(HINT: We’ll be giving out plenty of chicken-related goodies throughout the day, so if you love your PERi-PERi AND want to raise money for a great cause, then the Great Chicken March is most definitely for you . . . )

Big hugs and thank-yous for your support.

Bringing Laughter to Leicester…

Wednesday, February 1st, 2012

Here at Nando’s we’re always game for a laugh and to prove it, we’re giving you the chance to get your hands on the hottest tickets at the Leicester Comedy Festival.

On Tuesday 7th February, we’re putting on a Nando’s comedy gig, ‘The Other Side’ and we’ve got ten pairs of tickets (and of course loads of PERi-PERi) up for grabs for those up for a laugh.

Back for its second year, we’ve got four hilarious comedians lined up to storm the stage at the Nando’s Highcross restaurant. Chris Ramsey an Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee who you might’ve spotted on Celebrity Juice or 8 Out of 10 Cats, Jarred Christmas the Kiwi from 2011’s Celebrity Mastermind, Tom Davis whose characters have probably already made you laugh on Channel 4’s Morgana Show, and Paul McCaffrey who debuted his solo standup, ‘Saying Something Stupid’ at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

To get your hands on a pair of tickets, just make us laugh by adding the punch line to the following joke …we’ll pick the ten that have us creasing up to come along.

If you’re on Twitter, tweet your punch line to the following joke using the hashtag #NandosHaHa to see if you’ve got what it takes to make us laugh. Alternatively, head on over here to our competition entry page and make us do a little giggle with your punchline.
