Nando’s Best of the Fest: Camp Bestival

Tuesday, July 28th, 2015

Our tour of the summer festivals continues this weekend when we take our Rule The Roost to the amazing Camp Bestival. We’re firing up the Cock o’ Van with enough chicken for all the family, and as always, we’ll have some very, VERY special, unannounced guests coming to play on our Extra Hot soundsystem. Come find us and join the party!

To get you all geared up for the weekend, here are five unmissable acts playing around the Camp Bestival site that we know you’re going to love:

Kiko Bun

The perfect soundtrack for a sizzling hot weekend (fingers crossed!) Kiko Bun’s irresistible reggae-tinged soul is going to sound very special at Camp Bestival. New single ‘Where I’m From’ is playing non-stop across radio and fast becoming one of the defining tracks of the year, and it’s just one of the many highlights of an amazing live show.

Kate Tempest

One of the UK’s most inspiring singer-songwriters, Kate Tempest performs with a fiery passion that’s quite incredible to witness. Emerging from London’s spoken-word scene, she’s evolved a unique sound that integrates hip-hop into her storytelling, and on-stage is where it truly comes to life. Last year’s debut album was nominated for the esteemed Mercury Music Prize and expect to hear much of it in what will be an unforgettable performance.

George The Poet

The North London rapper’s 2015 started with a major bang when he was shortlisted in the Sound Of 2015 award, where DJs, writers and other tastemakers nominate the hottest new acts for the coming year. Since then he’s risen to become one of the UK’s most popular MCs, and we can’t wait to hear him light up the Camp Bestival stage this weekend with his inspiring lyrics and unique delivery.

Ekkah

Ekkah’s lush pop sound is cooler than a Gelado and their show this weekend will be a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. Their debut single ‘Last Chance To Dance’ was a regular on Radio 1 and will sound even tastier with the Camp Bestival crowd singing along. And we hear the band has just signed a major record deal so they’ll be bringing an extra dose of good vibes this weekend!

The Bohicas

Having spent some quality time wandering the many wondrous chilled out worlds of Camp Bestival, you might find yourself needing to just throw your hands in the air and wave them like you just don’t care. And there won’t be many more exciting live sets this weekend than The Bohicas, whose sharp guitar pop will appeal to fans of The Strokes or Wolf Alice. Their recent single ‘Swarm’ was a Hottest Record In The World on Radio 1, and no wonder for it’s pretty much a perfect rock song to go wild to.

Check out these artists and more in our Camp Bestival festival Spotify playlist below.

Nando’s Best of the Fest: Lovebox

Monday, July 13th, 2015

Lovebox-Festival-LogoFollowing our first Rule The Roost outing at Parklife, Nando’s is loading up the Cock o’ Van and heading to Lovebox with enough chicken to feed the masses and enough beats to nourish the hardiest of party animals.

We’ll also be bringing some very special guests, so come find us in the fields!

To get you all fired up for the weekend, here are five Extra Hot acts playing around the festival that we know you’re going to love:

Ella Eyre
Since her breakout debut on Rudimental’s ‘Waiting All Night’, Ella Eyre has continued bossing the charts with her incredible voice and infectious energy. An amazing live performer, her Lovebox set is likely to be a crowd-pleasing mix of her solo hits plus the collaborations, and if the East London crowd isn’t completely fired up by the end then we’ll gladly eat our sunhat.

Jackmaster
The Scottish party king’s set this weekend will be a guaranteed roadblock so make sure you get your crew down nice and early! One of the most creative DJs you’ll ever hear, Jackmaster jumps from disco to techno to hip-hop in the blink of an eye, but always with the emphasis on keeping the atmosphere Extra Hot.

B Traits
The Canadian DJ is now firmly established as one of the key tastemakers for the hottest new dance music emerging from the UK and beyond. Her Friday night Radio 1 slot showcases her love of eclectic electronic sounds, which she weaves into DJ sets that have had crowds from London to Ibiza in a frenzy. The Digital Soundboy record label, where she works alongside pioneers Shy FX and Breakage, is one of the most consistently exciting imprints around, expect hot new cuts to feature in what’s sure to be a major party set.

Flight Facilities
Whatever the weather, this Australian duo will bring the sunshine to East London this weekend with their feel-good disco-house sound. Last year’s debut album ‘Down To Earth’ featured the evergreen club hit ‘Crave You’ which made them superstars in their homeland and with every trip to these shores they’re playing to bigger and bigger crowds. Sunglasses essential for this one.

Raury
Raury burst onto the scene last year fusing hip-hop and soul on the amazing ‘Indigo Child’ album, with the likes of Kanye West and Giles Peterson instantly singing his praises. The 19 year old has only played a handful of UK shows so this hotly anticipated date at Lovebox is going to generate a truly sizzling atmosphere. Catch him now while you still can.

Sounding tasty? Have a listen to some of these artists and more of our Lovebox festival favourites on our Spotify playlist below.

Nando’s Hempstead Valley is here!

Wednesday, July 8th, 2015

Hempstead Valley is in for one heck of a spicy delight today, as we open the doors to our awesome new Nando’s restaurant in the Hempstead Valley Shopping Centre.

We have the biggest South African art collection in the UK, and this restaurant doesn’t disappoint – the African inspired design boasts incredible interior, handcrafted tiles, spectacular lighting, and walls draped in unique African art.

Our favourite spot is the uber-stylish circular booths hidden towards the back, perfect for a PERi-PERi pit stop mid shopping session. Go check them out!

Whether you grab and go with a takeaway treat, or take situ and enjoy the Afro-Luso beats, we’re here to give you a PERi-tastic experience – mi casa es su casa!

Nando’s Headingley is here!

Wednesday, July 1st, 2015

Headingley 1This week, we’re saying hello to Headingley as we open up our brand new restaurant just in time for summer!

Bigger isn’t always better, but we wanted more, and we had the building extended just for us. And we’ve made sure there’s some outdoor seating too, for the sunny summer days ahead.

The restaurant is decorated with some beautiful Portuguese influenced handmade tiles, everywhere from the walls and floor, to the ceiling. We loved them that much!

We’ve also made one wall entirely from burnt cork! We’re particularly excited to watch our specially designed counter tops (made from a soft metal called pewter) age over time, to get more and more impressive. Watch this space!

If you were looking for an excuse to break from studying, this is it!

We’ll get the Fro-Yos ready…

Nando’s Best of the Fest: Wireless

Tuesday, June 30th, 2015

Wireless-Festival-LogoFollowing our first serving of festival fun at Parklife, Nando’s heads to North London to the incredible New Look Wireless Festival to do some backstage feeding for one of tastiest line-ups you’ll find anywhere in the world. Only a few more sleeps to go…

To whet your appetite for the weekend, here are five Extra Hot acts we recommend hot footing it to:

Kendrick Lamar

After dropping one of the greatest hip-hop records of all time (2013’s ‘Good Kid, M.A.A.D City’) the pressure was most definitely on for Kendrick Lamar to deliver the goods again. No biggie for the ridiculously cool Californian however, as he swaggered up to the plate and dropped ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’, one of 2015’s most unpredictable and inspiring albums. Drake and Avicii will bring the glamour this weekend, but for many at Wireless, the biggest buzz will be the return of Kendrick.

Charli XCX

Since bursting onto the scene guesting on the Icona Pop smash-hit ‘I Love It’, Nando’s fan Charli XCX has just kept soaring to become one of the biggest British acts in the States. But she hasn’t forgotten about us back home, and we can’t wait to hear the likes of ‘Break The Rules’ and ‘Famous’ booming from the Wireless sound system. We Love It!

Lethal Bizzle

Lethal Bizzle only does one kind of record, and that’s the kind that gets a party completely fired up! He’s been dishing out Extra Hot party treats from the early days of ‘Pow!’ to his recent carnival-fused ‘Fester Skank’, where he even dropped his favourite restaurant into the flow – “2 2 Chicken – Nando’s!” And unless you’ve been vacationing in Mars in recent weeks you’ll know his Fester Skank dance craze has been spreading like wildfire, and the Wireless crowd ‘skanking’ en masse is set to be one of the weekend’s many highlights.

Gorgon City

With a tasty-looking DJ residency at the world-renowned Ibiza nightclub Amnesia now in full swing, Gorgon City are firmly established as one of the top dogs in dance music. Their Top Ten album ‘Sirens’ is packed with more hits than Carl Froch so expect some serious sing-a-long action at this weekend’s party from the Gorgon City live experience.

Ilovemakonnen

This upcoming Atlanta rapper might be fresh to many people, but you’ll certainly know some of the major players he seems to have on speed dial. Diplo, Skrillex, Snoop Dogg and Rihanna look set to appear on his forthcoming debut album, and he’s already worked with his mentor Drake on last year’s underrated jam ‘Tuesday’. So he’s certainly got friends in high places, but we’re tipping he’ll be a star in his own right very soon.

It’s going to be an amazing weekend, and if you haven’t managed to sort a ticket yet then keep an eye on our Twitter channels this week for competitions to win last minute passes …

Muzi kicks off Nando’s Music Exchange

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2015

MUZI BlogOver the past few months, we’ve been checking out the music scene in Nando’s birthplace, South Africa, to showcase some amazing artists.

Kicking off The Music Exchange, which will see the best of South African and UK talent brought together, our first tip is phenomenal young DJ producer Muzi.

Muzi’s early tracks have picked up a growing online fan base over the last year, backed by some of the biggest names in dance music including The Prodigy, Rinse FM and Diplo’s Mad Decent label.

Building up a strong reputation in his homeland as the most exciting electronic artist of his generation, Muzi’s first official release, ‘Nizogcwala’, is out this Friday (26th June 2015). It’s a rich culture-clash mix, inspired by the electronic and hip-hop sounds of the UK and US, as well as the unique South African Zulu vocal flavours.

The video is just as tasty as the beat, a blistering and hypnotic visual feast that captures all the energy of the track. Muzi describes the track’s fusion of styles: “We have Western influences but we’re still inspired by our traditions and culture as well. Two worlds have met and both play an important role. I hope this video and my music gets that message across.”

Currently relocating from the Empangeni township in the northeast of South Africa to one of the strongholds of electronic music, Berlin, Germany, Muzi is set to launch his sound in Europe and beyond, and ‘Nizogcwala’ is just for starters. Catch his debut UK tour in September, and keep an eye on Nando’s Rule The Roost over the summer…he might just be jumping on the Cock o’ Van while he’s in town!
