Does Nando's Serve Halal Chicken?

Who Supplies You With Chicken?
All of our chicken is British and is fresh, never frozen. We use several suppliers including Avara, Moy Park and 2 Sisters Food Group.
Do You Use Battery Chicken?
No. All of our chickens are barn reared to Red Tractor standard. All of our chickens are raised in sheds with natural light and with access to welfare enrichment such as perches, hay bales and pecking objects.
What Welfare Enrichment Do You Provide?
All of our chickens are reared in deep littered, well-ventilated barns with constant access to food and water. Hay bales, perches and pecking objects are also used in all of our sheds to encourage natural behaviour.
Why Don’t You Use Free Range Chicken?
Nando’s prides itself in offering great tasting food at great value. Chicken welfare is of utmost importance however we also need to consider the price our customers are willing to pay. We continue to engage with our suppliers in the search for practical welfare improvements.
How Do You Ensure That The Farms Which Supply You Chicken Comply With Your Standards?
All of our suppliers hold Red Tractor industry standard accreditation which is strictly regulated. In addition we employ an independent auditing company and our internal technical team also undertake regular visits to all our suppliers. We are confident that these processes ensure that the chicken we serve meets the high standard which our customers demand.
Are you looking to improve your animal welfare standards?
We recognise the need to continually re-evaluate existing standards and have spent the last two years working on a strategy to address the complex relationship between higher welfare standards, environmental issues and supply-chain management. We know that as leading restaurant group we have a responsibility to overcome these challenges and ensure that every aspect of how we source our chicken is done in the best possible way.
We have partnered with Compassion in World Farming, FAI Farms and the Soil Association to introduce a new long-term chicken welfare policy. This will include a range of key welfare metrics so we can measure and track its progress to help drive real change in the chicken industry.
In May 2020 we signed the Better Chicken Commitment, which means that we pledge to fully implement higher standards of welfare for chickens in our supply chain by 2026. With this commitment, we are pledging to give chickens better lives, and we are working with suppliers and industry groups to:
Make a 100% shift to a breed of chicken that is naturally slower growing. This breed is a stronger, healthier chicken that has already been proven to enjoy increased playing and jumping, which in the chicken industry is a true sign of health and wellbeing. These birds will be given more space in which to roam and live.
Work in partnership with farmers to help deliver improved farming practices that add value to both the birds and the farms themselves.
Invest in studies to advance understanding of how Nando’s can further reduce the impact of chicken feed on its carbon footprint
How Is Nando's Chicken Cooked?
Our chickens are marinated for at least 24 hours before being cooked. Every oven in Nando’s kitchens is pre-programmed to ensure chicken is cooked thoroughly and each batch is temperature checked before serving to ensure it has reached at least 75 degrees. Each chicken is then flame-grilled to order.
What Part of The Chicken Do You Use at Nando’s?
Here at Nando’s, we serve delicious flame-grilled PERi-PERi chicken in a variety of different styles, so no matter what your preference is, we’re sure to have something to whet your appetite.
What are the on the bone chicken options?
Prefer your chicken on the bone? We’ve got a range of mouth-watering dishes that are absolutely perfect for you. Try a 1/4 chicken, 1/2 chicken, or if you’re feeling particularly peckish, a whole chicken. Oh, and there’s also our legendary chicken wings. Need we say more?
If you’re a bit of a gambler, you can always opt for the Wing Roulette. That’s 10 chicken wings randomly spiced with different PERi-PERi flavours, perfect for the daredevils among us.
What are the boneless chicken options?
We’ve also got a ton of different options for off the bone chicken! First up, there are our chicken thighs – each serving contains four flame-grilled chicken thighs with the skin on. It’s a simple dish that’s simply packed with flavour. Then, there’s the chicken butterfly – two succulent chicken breasts joined by crispy skin. We also serve chicken breast fillets and thighs in our burgers, pittas, wraps, and salads, making them ideal for anyone who wants to mix it up.
Are there any other types of chicken dishes?
Tired of your regular dishes and want to try something special? The Sunset Burger might be the one for you. Two tender chicken thighs, smoky red pepper chutney, baby spinach and melting cheddar cheese, all wrapped up in a soft bolo do caco roll. Umm, yum!
Alternatively, why not try the Fino Pitta? For the uninitiated, that’s grilled halloumi cheese, caramelised red onion relish, wild garlic aioli mayonnaise, and two flame-grilled chicken thighs in a toasted pitta. This one’s a real crowd-pleaser.

Will You Ever Use Chlorinated Chicken From America?
No. All of our chickens are from the UK and reared to Red Tractor standard. We only serve fresh, never frozen chicken and will never compromise on the quality of our chicken. We have never and will never use chlorinated Chicken.
Is There A Difference Between Nando's PERi-PERi Sauces Sold In The Restaurant And The Supermarkets?
There may be a slight flavour difference in the sauces used in our restaurants and the ones you can buy in the supermarkets. This is because the sauces used in our restaurants are made in the UK, but the ones sold in supermarkets come all the way from Netherlands for your personal PERi-PERi delight. The recipes are the same, but the taste may vary a bit depending on the source of the ingredients.
What is Nando's PERinaise sauce?
PERinaise is our own unique blend of a creamy mayonnaise and PERi-PERi chillies. It’s perfect for squeezing onto, dipping into, or spreading over, well, just about anything. Your sandwiches, chips, cheese toasties, and, of course, chicken never had it so good.

I Have A Food Allergy, Can I Check The Ingredients Of Any Of The Items You Serve?
We want to make sure everyone can enjoy their Nando's experience with us. In every restaurant we have a 'Food Allergy and Nutritional information' book, which tells you all the ingredients in every product we have (it's a pretty big book!). If you do have an allergy, please let us know when you order so we can make double sure your meal is prepared with the utmost care to minimise cross-contamination. Do You Use Pasteurised Egg In Any Of Your Products?
If there's egg in the ingredients of a certain product, it'll be pasteurised - it's the only way to use egg safely. If you want to find out which of our products have pasteurised egg in, have a look at our 'Food and Menu Specifications' book, which can be found in any of our restaurants. Just ask any member of the team and they'll get it for you!
Is There Anything On Your Menu Suitable For Vegetarians?
Nando's are not a vegetarian restaurant, but we do offer non-meat products on our menu which can be seen here. We take specific steps to segregate our non-meat from our meat products: We choose a specific part of the grill for cooking only non-meat products Separate utensils are always used with non-meat products Separate bottles of the Nando’s bastes are used exclusively for basting the non-meat products.
Full ingredient listings are available in all of our restaurants, just ask the duty manager to see the Food and Menu Specification Folder when you visit. We'd recommend telling the restaurant team when you order that you're a vegetarian, just to ensure they're extra careful!
Is There Anything On Your Menu Suitable For Vegans?
We’re not a vegan restaurant, but we do try and make sure there’s something for everyone at Nando’s.
Whether you’re going full vegan, looking into a more plant-based diet, going flexitarian or just a bit curious about the vegan life, our menu has plenty of meat-free options.

If you’re interested in the cooking of our vegetarian and vegan items, we do take rigorous steps to segregate our non-meat products from our meat products. We choose a specific part of the grill for our non-meat products and we use separate utensils for them too. We also use separate bottles of our bastes for all non-meat products.
If you have an allergy, please always tell us when you’re ordering so we can be extra careful with your food. We’d like to make sure you’re safe, after all!
