Saracens taking over Nando’s St. Albans!

It hasn’t been long since the last Nando’s takeover in Northampton and yet another one took place last night in St. Albans. We were joined by the Saracens players, who amazed everyone while taking over the restaurant for the night and giving some PERi-PERi love back to their most loyal fans.

Owen Farrell (@owen_faz), Nils Mordt (@NilsMordt), Jackson Wray (@Jackson Ray), Jamie George (@J_George2), James Short (@JamesShort11) and the rest of the Saracens players were not only taking orders and helping fans chose the spice of their PERi-PERi chicken, but they also made it for them!

Autographs and rugby balls were signed by the players and they posed for lots of of photos with their fans. On top of all this, some amazing Saracens prizes were raffled for five lucky winners.

All in all, it was another great takeover, raising over £2,800 for the Saracens Sports Foundation, a foundation whose mission is to inspire communities and change the lives of people through the power of sports.

A HUGE thank you to everyone for getting involved. We can’t wait until the next one!

Nando’s Northampton Saints Takeover

For the third year in a row the Northampton Saints rugby squad took over Nando’s Northampton on Wednesday evening. Sixteen members of the squad, including Ben Foden, Tom Ford, Dylan Hartley, Courtney Lawes and Brian Mujati took time off their busy schedules, surprising fans with their fine cooking and serving skills.

After (literally) polishing off their plates, leaving no traces of PERi-PERi chicken behind, the guys got into action. Enthusiastic as always, they were spotted at the door, behind the grills, serving food and just chatting away with their fans. Two customers who were lucky enough to be celebrating their birthday were caught unaware when their rugby heroes appeared in front of them with a cake singing Happy Birthday.

It was a great evening with everyone from the fans, to the players to the Nandocas having an amazing time! But the most important of all . . . we managed to raise £2,820 for the Cynthia Spenser Charitable Trust. Lovely stuff.

And we made a promise too . . . next year the Saints Takeover will be back – bigger, fresher and with more PERi-PERi chicken ready to raise even more money to charity. Check out some of the pics below and keep an eye on Facebook and Twitter for some more over the next few days.

HUGE thanks and Nando’s love to everyone involved.

You’re All Winners and We Heart You All

Wow. We were blown away by the amount of love you guys gave us when we said we wanted to say a little thank you with our #ThanksAQuarter giveaway.

Thousands of you tweeted us with a reason to be sent a £10 Nando’s gift card, yet only 250 of you could be winners. So, last week was tough for us as we had to check out heaps and heaps of hashtagged tweets and narrow them down to the top 250 that made us smile, laugh, WTF or OMG the most.

A huge Nando’s thank you to everyone that got involved and extra big hugs and congratulations to everyone who got their mitts on a gift card. We’ve been in touch with all the winners (by Twitter DM) now and will be sending them out this week, so you *should* receive them in time to get your PERi-PERi on this weekend.

Here’s a quick selection of some of our favourite entries that included everything from cats, poems, partial nudity and stop-frame animation to bones, Barci sticks and (of course) Nando’s sauce bottles.

A Final Hot Hero dinner with Choice FM’s Kojo!

We’ve been working with our friends LIVE Magazine who have been running a competition to celebrate young people who’re doing good stuff in their communities. Winners got the chance for them and their friends to have a meal with a special guest. In the past, P Money and dance group Flawless buddied up with the winners in one of our Nando’s restaurants.

This week, LIVE Magazine hosted their fourth and final Hot Hero’s dinner at Nando’s in Stratford. Over 50 people took part in the competition, where each had to tell us something good they had done for their community. Our winner was the bubbly Zee, a 15 year old from South London who finally got the shine she deserves. Zee has been caring for her mother who has arthritis, but unfortunately this commitment has stopped her being able to enjoy some of the luxuries of any other normal teen.

On Tuesday Zee got the chance to experience something extra special to reward her for doing all that good stuff. She invited 9 of her closest mates to join her for a meal of a lifetime with Choice FM’s Kojo. After some peri-peri treats, endless banter and a chicken quiz, Kojo, a self proclaimed Nando’s fanatic, was in awe of Zee’s achievements and enjoyed the meal with Zee and her friends.

Go ‘Wild’ with the stars on the red carpet

Dexter Fletcher, star of Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (and long-time lover of the PERi-PERi) is making his directing debut with the release of Wild Bill – and you and a friend can be at the premier and check it out before anyone else. We have a pair of tickets up for grabs for the star-studded London event on Tuesday 20th of March.

The story: After eight years in prison, Bill Hayward (Creed-Miles) returns home to find his two sons abandoned by their mother. Not wanting to take on the role of ‘father figure’, Bill’s actions attract the attention of social services. To prevent them from being placed in foster care, his eldest son Dean, threatens to grass Bill up for dealing, forcing them to play happy families. A connection grows between them but before life is good again, Jimmy, his youngest, gets mixed up with some of Bill’s old friends, causing Bill to protect his sons and to decide what kind of father he wants to be: a good one or a free one.

Dexter Fletcher’s directing debut casts familiar faces from the likes of Charlie Creed-Miles (Injustice, Five Days), Will Poulter (Son of Rambow, The Chronicles of Narnia) and Liz White (Life On Mars, The Woman in Black). This British crime-comedy-family drama has been getting some great reviews and is really spicing things up on the British Film scene.

Fancy being there on the red carpet on Tuesday night? Just leave a comment in the box below with your answer to the following question:

‘In what film did Dexter Fletcher star alongside ex-footballer and Hollywood hard man Vinnie Jones?’

Terms and Conditions:
Competition closes 6:00pm Friday 16th March and the winner will be notified within two working days. Prize includes entry of the winner and one guest to the premiere of Wild Bill on Tuesday 20th March 2012 at the Cineworld Haymarket, doors open at 6pm. Travel and accommodation is not included. Entrants must be 15 or over and tickets will be collected on the night.

This competition is now closed.

MK Lions Takeover @ Milton Keynes

You may be wondering what was all the noise being heard from Nando’s Milton Keynes last night. Well, eight particularly tall guys from the MK Lions Basketball Team, each at least two heads taller than your average Nandoca, were spotted behind the grills serving up our famous PERi-PERi chicken.

The Lions boys Carl Josey, Cameron Bernard, Justin Dobbins, Adrien Sturt, Christopher Taiwah, Ishmael Fontaine and Demarius Bolds, together with their coach Mike New, surprised us with their extraordinary skills whilst taking over the Nandos in Milton Keynes Shopping Centre for three hours on Monday night.

We managed to raise a whole heap of cash together, which will be donated to the Milton Keynes Community Foundation and the MK Lions Sports Foundation. And, for the lucky winners of the raffle tickets, there were also four baskets full to the brim Nando’s goodies and an MK Lions T-shirt signed by all the players … what more could you ask for?

All in all, with intensity, speed and precision the Lions boys made us feel just as if we were watching them in action on the court, as they grilled order after order to perfection. It was a great night and we wish the MK Lions boys the best of luck in their game this Sunday against the Sheffield Sharks.

Check out some of the pics below . . . HUGE thanks to everyone involved.

#ThanksAQuarter

***COMPETITION NOW CLOSED***

There are now over a quarter of a million Nando’s fans following us on Twitter and we think that’s rather exciting indeed. Numbers aren’t everything we know, but we reckon over 250,000 Nando’s fans all in one place is something that should be celebrated.

So, as a little thank you for following us, and mainly for putting up with all the ReTweeted food photos, we’re giving away 250 £10 gift cards to 250 of our followers (You could even buy a ¼ chicken with it, just to keep in with the quarter theme).

thanksaquarterfullwidth

If you fancy some free Nando’s on us, then just tweet @Nandos_Official with the hashtag #ThanksAQuarter and a reason you should get the goods. That’s it, simple. We’ll choose a selection of our favourites, most likely the ones that make us smile or laugh the hardest, so be creative and remember that we especially love photos.

We’ll be in touch with 250 of you by DM to let you know you’ve won and get all your details. Gift cards will then be sent out as soon as we can by post.

Rub shoulders with the stars at the premiere of Payback Season

Following on from Oscar season, we are giving you the chance to sizzle on the red carpet at one of the UK’s hottest film releases of the year. In our latest competition we have two tickets up for grabs for the London premiere of Payback Season, starring Adam Deacon on Tuesday 6th March.

Hot shot premiership footballer Jerome seems to have it all – a luxury flat, a fast car, any girl he wants and a booming career. A vast contrast to the council estate life he left behind.

Following a run-in with his old estate crew, his world is turned upside down as he gets caught up in the gangland ways his friends still pursue and before long finds himself being blackmailed by the dealers, crooks and dropouts he used to hang around with.

Starring Adam Deacon, one of the UK’s hottest talents, Nicola Burley (StreetDance 3D), Leo Gregory (Green Street) and England football legend Sir Geoff Hurst in his debut feature role, Payback Season is a tense and gripping drama that takes an exhilarating look at what can happen when you past catches up with you.

If you want to be there, all you have to do is answer the following question in the box below…

What award did Adam pick up at this year’s BAFTA ceremony?

Competition closes on Monday 5th March and the winner will be notified shortly after. Prize includes entry of the winner and one guest to the premiere of Payback Season on Tuesday 6th March 2012. Travel and accommodation is not included.

Our beautiful new menu covers

Have you ever wondered where Nando’s gets all the amazing pieces of art you find on our restaurant walls? Well, it actually all comes from South Africa (the home of Nando’s) and makes up the largest collection of African art outside the country, with over 4,000 pieces in total from over 260 talented artists.

You may remember us telling you about the start of our Art Menu Project last year where some of our favourite South African artists from the Nando’s collection were invited over to see some London sights and sounds and enjoy some PERi-PERi chicken, on us. Well, they’ve been hard at work for the last six months and as a result have created some beautiful pieces that we’re incredibly proud to have used for some amazing new menu covers.

Nando'sMenuCoversFeb2012

The new menu designs launch in all restaurants nationwide this week, so check them out next time you visit and in the meantime you can find out more about our collection and about the artists themselves here or over at the new African art section of the Nando’s website.

Huge thanks goes out to the artists responsible for the new menu cover designs (and all the other amazing artists that feature in the Nando’s collection).
