Taking over our latest Music Exchange playlist is the all-conquering drum and bass superstars Rudimental. The band, who crowned an amazing 12 months with the release of their second album ‘We Are The Generation,’ joined our party at Bestival this year with a fired up DJ set on top of our Cock o’ Van.
Piers talked us through some of the selections from their Music Exchange playlist, inspired by their childhoods, performances and the summer of 2015:
The Rudimental Family
We’ve included ‘Boy’ by Anne-Marie, an amazing track signed to our new label Major Tom’s. Anne-Marie appeared on our new album and we’ve included ‘Rumour Mill’ too, which also features Will Heard on vocals.
The Old Skool Classics
The playlist also features tracks that were on constant rewind growing up and still sound so fresh, such as The Streets’ ‘Blinded By The Lights’ – the vocal and lyrics on that are so on point. ‘Driver’ by Buju Banton is another massive tune from our youth, which always gets a reload in the clubs when we play it.
The Summer Anthems
We’ve dropped some of our favourite songs from an incredible summer, such as Swindle’s ‘Elevator Ft TC’.This tune is nuts, it has LEVELS, let me repeat LEVELS! The production is so great. And of course Todd Terje’s ‘Inspector Norse’ – a real banger for our DJ sets.
They Were The Generation
We wanted to include some of our inspirations, such as Toots And The Maytals. Their ‘54-46 Was My Number’ is some serious reggae vibes, and ‘Not Just Knee Deep’ by Funkadelicis an all-time classic to make you dance and sing your head off. George Clinton was the man that made funk, and helped create hip-hop.
Best Of The Year
We wanted to include a couple of our favourites from the year that still sound so good. ‘Lean On’ by Major Lazer is such a big track, and we love the slow bashment vibe to it. The Internet and Kaytranada’s ‘Girl’ is a special song too. These guys have so much soul – really love this 90s vibe happening here.
