Our restaurants aren't halal, but we have around 80 restaurants in the UK that serve 100% halal chicken.
What makes a restaurant serving halal produce different?
In these restaurants, we only serve chicken that's certified halal. And as we don’t handle any pork ingredients, there’s no chance of cross-contamination
It’s also important that the chickens we use for our halal products get the same high standard of welfare as the rest of our chickens. Our UK suppliers follow the Red Tractor Farm Assurance Standards. And we’ve partnered with organisations like Compassion in World Farming to make sure we continue to improve the wellbeing of all our animals.
Why do we serve halal chicken?
We want to make sure everyone can have our PERi-PERi chicken. So we'll decide if a restaurant will serve halal chicken based on things like:
- Local population
- Future openings in the area
- Distance to the nearest halal Nando's
- Distribution factors
How do I know if a restaurant serves halal chicken?
- Look out for the sign at the restaurant entrance and certificates in the restaurant from accredited factories.
- Check the restaurant's page on our website

Who supplies our Halal chicken?
We get our halal chickens from Shazan Foods Ltd and Freemans of Newent Ltd. They’re authorised by the Islamic Institute of Jurisprudence and are both leading suppliers of halal chicken.
The quality, welfare and health of our chicken is a priority and our UK suppliers follow the strict Red Tractor Farm Assurance Standards. Our halal chickens are pre-stunned to minimise suffering and fear before they're hand-slaughtered.
All our halal products are kept separate at our suppliers and in our distribution centres. And our restaurants with halal-friendly options are only allowed to receive chicken from our approved distribution centre.
